What were you doing before the MCL?

Prior to joining the MCL, I had just completed my undergraduate law degree (LLB) in what was an extremely fulfilling three years. Having studied various corporate-oriented courses, I knew the MCL was the right path for me to progress in my future aspirations. While many candidates on the MCL tend to have a background in legal practice, I wanted to begin my legal career with a head start and this was my core motivation for joining the MCL.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

The MCL has been a truly enriching experience. While assessments and workload come at you fast, it really transforms your ability to learn on the go while managing the pressures that come incidentally. I genuinely enjoyed every class I attended and worked on matters that excite me. I would liken it to getting a Celebrations chocolate tub and taking out all the ‘not so nice’ chocolates leaving you with all your favourites. The Deals course is really popular amongst most students as you work on real transactions which really takes you out of your comfort zone. For someone that had never worked closely with key transactional documentation, giving a presentation on a transaction and writing the Deals Report were exhilarating experiences. I got to build on my foundational legal knowledge, which can be very abstract in practice, and apply it to real transactions. My favourite deal was perhaps the generative artificial intelligence venture capital deal on which all students wrote their reports for this year. Law and the Digital Economy was also a particularly stimulating module , though to be honest, all the modules I studied were sensational. The unique interactive teaching style the MCL embraces was also so effective in truly learning from some of the sharpest legal minds around.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

After the MCL, I will be pursuing my aspiration to train and qualify as a solicitor. I’m currently progressing with the vacation scheme process and following this, will look to subsequently train in London which will provide me with the opportunity to work on ground-breaking transactions. Prior to training, I intend to prepare for and take the Solicitors Qualifying Exam.
