What were you were doing before the MCL?

After graduating with an LLB from Multimedia University in Malaysia, I became qualified Advocate & Solicitor of High Court Malaya. I finished my pupillage with Azmi & Associates in 2013 and was called to the Bar on 5 July 2013. My interest in corporate matters began when I worked for Azmi & Associates, a full-service international law firm that provides integrated and comprehensive solutions globally, which is also a member of TerraLex. I enjoyed the analytically rigorous project work in Azmi & Associates which is a leading law firm in Banking and Finance and Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions in Malaysia.

Why did you take the MCL?

Throughout my pupillage with Azmi & Associates, I have been regularly involved in cross-border transactions with international clients. Thus, I believe the knowledge of English law will drive me further in my legal career. In order to provide the clients with high quality legal advice in the dynamic commercial world, the MCL provides a practical approach to address the legal issues. The MCL is an intensive and rigorous programme with strong focus on corporate transactions. Furthermore, the MCL is a hub of diverse and vibrant cultures with students from different jurisdictions. It provides a brand new learning dimension and insightful life experience.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

I have no regret to be part of the MCL as it has enhanced my legal knowledge and sharpened my personality. The MCL is a programme structured to prepare the students to be transactional lawyers. It constantly challenges the students intellectually and stimulates students to think critically. It also provides the students ample networking opportunities with the lawyers from UK law firms in order to ensure the students get substantial exposure to private practice. The MCL forms a challenging environment in the class as it is a golden opportunity to sit side-by-side and study together with partners or experienced lawyers from different countries.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

The MCL gave me a clearer picture of the corporate practices. It enhanced my passion in corporate field. After the MCL, I will continue to practice as a corporate lawyer either in UK or in Malaysia. My goal is to be a dual-qualified lawyer in Malaysia and UK. I believe the MCL has shaped me to be a better legal practitioner and driven me out from my own comfort zone. I am prepared to accept more challenging tasks in the future. My plans have not changed after taking the MCL instead they become more appealing. It has been a fruitful year to involve myself in the MCL which guides throughout the journey of my future success.
