Digital handshakeThe MCL programme will have a new module on offer in 2020-2021: 'Law and the Digital Economy - The Corporate Dimension'.

The module will provide MCL students with a unique opportunity to study from a corporate perspective digital innovations such as blockchain, distributed ledger technology (DLT) and smart contracts. The module also canvasses digital assets, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The module will consider the impact of digital assets on corporate finance and securities trading as well as assess the potential effect of DLT-based share registries on proxy voting and corporate governance. Students will also learn about the consequences of machine learning and artificial intelligence for corporate decision-making. Other topics to be covered include corporate smart contracts and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations.

The module will be taught by Dr Ann Sofie Cloots, supplemented by Faculty members researching topics the module canvasses.
