What were you were doing before the MCL?

After completing my legal studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and at the University Paris Descartes (Erasmus Exchange Programme), I joined the PotamitisVekris law firm, one of the most reputable commercial law firms of Greece. As a lawyer trainee, I gained extensive exposure to varied aspects of commercial law, ranging from competition/antitrust, corporate, banking & capital markets to project finance and insolvency & restructuring. The multi-jurisdictional nature of the majority of transactions I was involved in, as well as the practical dimension of my work, fostered my interest in practicing corporate law.

What were your impressions of the MCL?

I enrolled in the prestigious MCL programme so as to further develop my understanding of markets and M&A transactions, to address better challenging cases and to help secure beneficial outcomes for clients. The University of Cambridge and the MCL programme were my number one choice because of a strong international reputation and because the course attracts top students from different jurisdictions, which creates a multicultural environment that fosters the cross-pollination of ideas. The MCL exceeded my expectations. Most notably, the Deals Course effectively provided an insight of the lawyer’s role in corporate transactions and risk allocation tools. Dealing with real commercial documentation in four different contexts, I fostered my analytical skills and acquainted me with common law practice. Moreover, the wide range of elective courses, all corporate-oriented, contributed to my deep understanding of the market context within which companies operate and fostered the sort of innovative thinking required to meet the challenges of today’s rapidly-changing economy. The MCL, in addition, offers a highly interactive academic environment based on constant discussions and feedback. Finally,, the course offers extensive networking opportunities, fostered by the Practitioners Perspectives Series seminars and presentations by prominent practitioners of leading international law firms.

What are your post-MCL plans and have they changed due to taking the MCL?

The MCL degree has fuelled my passion for corporate transactions and has opened new horizons for my future professional development. I will be joining Linklaters LLP in London with the aim of becoming a solicitor . My career aspiration is to specialize in complex corporate deals and merger control regimes, ultimately with a strong global orientation.
